Just a little post on the moving realities. There's so much that's up in the air-or heading to sea--one of the many, many things left to be determined. The trick here, is that we're more experienced in the moving department than the company...which means a balancing act, because if we're too fast, or too 'on top of things' it seems to slow the whole process down, because we overwhelm the systems that are in place. However...there needs to be a whole lot more hustle for us to get this accomplished.
This morning, for example, we need to know the costs of shipping a 40' sea can, 20' sea can, and 3 D airfreight containers...because that will help me determine whether or not we're better off shipping all, most, or none of our furniture. If we do sell it here, it takes time, effort and tolerating people popping by to offer us 5 dollars for a sofa...(experience says this almost isn't exaggerating). If we ship it all, we can end up with furniture that doesn't fit in the new mysterious place we don't have yet.
Regardless, I'm sorting...because we've ended up with quite a few things that are duplicates, thanks to living for many weeks, in many places, without our essentials-so we have interim versions of these things...I've passed much of it along to people who can use it-including the unfortunate circumstances of people we know who had their movers steal everything. Everything. So they have our barely used bedding and some kitchen things to help bridge the gap between that and never getting their photos back... that's super-negative, I know, but there are some things that just stink. It reminds me of why I always feel a keen anxiety over the best way to get our pictures on their way.
This brings me to the insurance...there is no insurance for damage available this time. Why? No idea. Apparently, we are just to live with the condition of things when they arrive, or don't. I think the only insurance available is for a total loss...which would be the whole thing getting knocked overboard into the ocean? So, in the event of, let's just say water damage...no coverage. We would just accept the total loss of our goods?! And then, we would smile? I must find out more about this.
And then, there are the logistics of switching companies. Life insurance. Health insurance. Canadian health coverage gap between our own dime and the provincial health care. Disability insurance. Content insurance. Registering the kids in school means finding a property first. Renewing driver's licenses. Music lessons. Extracurricular--wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. There's booking flights, hotel, choosing final destination, etc... getting the kids' final reports, and deciding how vital are the last two weeks of school...What about tuition? When is the official last day of work here? More questions than answers. The real question is have we thought of all the questions yet?
So this all supports the need to meditate doesn't it?! And exercise.
Cheers and chao.
